About Nirupa Roy
Nirupa Roy was an Indian movie actress, best known for her iconic mother roles in numerous Hindi films. She was born on January 4, 1931, in India. Over the course of her more than five-decade career, she appeared in close to five hundred films and earned Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Awards for her performances in several notable movies including Munimji (1956), Chhaya (1962), and Shehnaai (1965).
Roy’s journey into acting began when she responded to a casting call for a Gujarati-language film titled Ranakdevi in 1946. This led to her debut role in Hindi cinema later that year with Amar Raj.
In recognition of her contributions to the industry, Nirupa Roy received the prestigious Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004. She was born as Kokila Kishorechandra Bulsara and grew up in Valsad, Gujarat, India. At fifteen, she married Kamal Roy with whom she had two sons named Kiran and Yogesh.
