About Nicole Avant
Nicole Avant (born March 6, 1968) is a prominent figure known for her various roles and contributions. She hails from California and is the daughter of Clarence Avant, a music executive and chairman of Motown Records.
Avant made history as the former Ambassador to Barbados from 2009 to 2011. Her career journey began after graduating from California State University, Northridge with a BA in communications in 1990. Initially starting at A&M records, she later became the Southern California finance co-chairwoman for the Barack Obama 2008 presidential campaign.
In addition to her diplomatic service, Avant produced the acclaimed Netflix film The Black Godfather in 2019, which portrayed her father’s life and legacy. Notably, she holds the distinction of being not only the first black woman but also the youngest person appointed as ambassador to Barbados.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Avant experienced tragedy when her mother Jackie was fatally shot during a home invasion in December 2021. She is married to Ted Sarandos, who serves as Co-Chief Executive Officer at Netflix.
