About Neyla Pekarek
Neyla Pekarek is a cellist and vocalist known for her work with the folk rock band The Lumineers. Born on September 4, 1986 in Denver, Colorado, she was originally trained as a classical cellist.
Pekarek’s path to joining The Lumineers began after she responded to a Craigslist ad posted by the band’s founders Wesley Schultz and Jeremiah Fraites, who were seeking a cellist. This decision diverged from her original plan to pursue teaching immediately after college.
Following her entry into the group in 2010, Pekarek contributed significantly to their success. She played an important role in defining their signature indie-folk sound and contributed vocals that were integral to several of their hit singles including “Ho Hey.”
Beyond music, Neyla Pekarek has shared roots with Denver, Colorado where she was born.
