About Nellie McClung
Nellie McClung, born on October 20, 1873 in Chatsworth, Canada was a prominent civil rights leader who advocated for female suffrage and the temperance movement. She rose to become one of Canada’s most well-known activists.
Prior to gaining fame, she played an integral role in the women’s rights movement in Winnipeg and authored the novel “Sowing Seeds in Danny” in 1908 which addressed the subject matter. Notably, she led the Persons Case which resulted in a landmark Canadian decision establishing that women could serve as Canadian Senators.
McClung was married to Wesley with whom she had five children; he remained supportive of her work throughout their lives.
