Nancy Graves (December 23, 1939 – December 21, 1995) was an American sculptor, painter, and printmaker known for her work focusing on natural phenomena such as camels or maps of the moon.
Graves was born in Massachusetts and later attended Vassar College and Yale University before pursuing her career as an artist. She gained recognition for her most famous piece “Camels,” which was first exhibited at the Whitney Museum of American Art.
In addition to her artistic achievements, Graves married Avery L. Smith during her lifetime.
