About Mona Simpson
Mona Simpson is an American novelist who was born on June 14, 1957, in Green Bay, Wisconsin. She gained acclaim for her debut novel Anywhere but Here (1986), which earned her the prestigious Whiting Prize. Her 2000 work Off Keck Road also received recognition when it won the Chicago Tribune Heartland Prize.
Before launching her successful writing career, Simpson obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley and then went on to earn an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Columbia University. Notably, she discovered in adulthood that the child given up for adoption by her young parents was none other than Apple founder Steve Jobs. Following Jobs’ passing, she penned a moving eulogy for him that was published in the New York Times.
Hailing from a family with Syrian and American roots, Simpson was primarily raised by her mother and stepfather. In addition to her literary achievements, she was married to The Simpsons writer Richard Appel before later divorcing.
