About Mirta Diaz-Balart
Mirta Diaz-Balart was a Cuban woman born on September 30, 1928. She is best known for being the first wife of Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, whom she married in 1948. The two were divorced in 1955 while Castro was in exile, after which she moved to Spain to live with her family.
Before fame, she was a student at the University of Havana in Cuba when she met her future husband. Her only child with Castro, Fidel Jr., was kidnapped by his father during a visit to Mexico.
Following her divorce from Castro, Diaz-Balart remarried Emilio Nunez Blanco and had three children.
