About Mireia Belmonte
Mireia Belmonte, born on November 10, 1990 in Badalona, Spain, is a world record-holding Spanish swimmer. She made history by winning two silver medals at the 2012 Olympic games – being the first swimmer from her country to medal twice at one Games. Mireia’s career started when she competed at the World Youth Championships in 2006 and won her first gold medals in competition two years later.
Notably, in 2013, Mireia became the first woman to race an 800 M freestyle in less than eight minutes. She was born to Jose Belmonte and Paqui Garcia and attended Open University of Catalonia.
