About Memphis Minnie
Memphis Minnie, born on June 3, 1897 in Louisiana, was a prominent blues guitarist and singer. Throughout her career, she recorded over two hundred songs, notable among them being “Bumble Bee” and “Me and My Chauffeur Blues.”
Prior to gaining recognition as a musician, Minnie had worked as a prostitute alongside pursuing her music career due to financial constraints. In 1929, she collaborated with Kansas Joe McCoy on the release of “When the Levee Breaks.”
Minnie’s early life saw her as the oldest of thirteen siblings.
