About Meleana Shim
Meleana Shim is a professional soccer player, born on September 25, 1991 in Hawaii. She currently plays as a midfielder for the Portland Thorns in the National Women’s Soccer League. Prior to her professional career, she had an impressive college soccer record and was named to the All-West Coast Conference Second Team during her junior year at Santa Clara University.
Before her college career, Shim excelled in high school soccer and won a state championship with Kamehameha Kapalama High School in 2007. Additionally, she played with Ho’okalakupua and contributed to their victory at the Surf Cup Under-19 Championship in 2008.
Beyond her athletic achievements, Shim made headlines when she came out as a lesbian during an interview with Outsports, an LGBT sports news website, in August 2013.
