About Meena Kandasamy
Meena Kandasamy (born October 12th, 1984) is an Indian poet and translator known for her anti-caste and feminist writings. She hails from Chennai, India and has garnered recognition for her work featured in the anthologies “Touch” and “Ms. Militancy”.
Prior to gaining acclaim as a poet, Kandasamy earned a Ph.D from Anna University. She began writing poetry at the age of 17 and later went on to translate several works from regional Indian languages into English.
Born to two college professors in Chennai, she was given the name Illavenil by her parents. In addition to her literary pursuits, Kandasamy appeared in the film “Oraalppokkam”.
