About Maxine Hong Kingston
Maxine Hong Kingston is a Chinese American memoirist born on October 27, 1940 in Stockton, California. She is best known for her feminist memoir, The Woman Warrior, and received the National Book Award for Nonfiction for her work China Men in 1980. Before gaining fame as an author, she studied engineering and English at the University of California-Berkeley before starting her writing career in Hawaii during the late 1960s.
Her autobiographical work, The Woman Warrior, was honored with the National Book Critics Circle Award for Nonfiction. Maxine was born to Chinese immigrant parents and later married actor Earll Kingston in 1962; they have one son together.
