About Maxine Clark
Maxine Clark, born on March 6th, 1949 in Coral Gables, Florida, is an American entrepreneur known for founding the popular Build-A-Bear Workshop franchise. Her idea for the store came about while shopping with a friend’s daughter who suggested that it would be more fun to build their own toy at home. The first Build-A-Bear Workshop opened its doors in 1997.
Prior to her entrepreneurial success, Maxine attended the University of Georgia in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Notably, she served as the president of Payless Shoe Source from 1992 until 1996 and authored a book in 2006 titled “The Bear Necessities of Business: Building a Company with Heart.”
Maxine Clark currently resides in Coral Gables, Florida.
