Maxi Gnauck, born on October 10, 1964 in Germany, is a former artistic gymnast who became the most successful female gymnast in Germany’s history. She achieved gold in the uneven bars at the 1980 Olympic Games and was subsequently named East German Sportspersonality of the Year. Gnauck won her first gymnastic medals at age eight and later became the first German gymnast ever to be inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame. Interestingly, her parents had initially prepared a name for a boy, Max, but changed it to Maxi once they discovered they were having a girl.
