Maureen McGovern, born on July 27, 1949 in Youngstown, Ohio, is an accomplished stage actress and singer. She is best known for her performance of “The Morning After” and for winning the first Best Original Song Oscar Award in 1976.
Before rising to fame, she worked as a secretary during the day while singing as part of the folk band Sweet Rain by night. Interestingly, due to financial troubles, she changed her name and started a new life as a secretary in Marina Del Rey.
McGovern was born into an Irish family to parents James Terrence McGovern and Mary Rita.
