Maryam Zaree is an Iranian-born actress and filmmaker known for her work in the performance arts. She has achieved success as a German-language actress in both film and television, notably starring in the crime scene investigation drama series “4 Blocks” from 2015 to 2019. In addition to her acting career, she has authored award-winning plays and held an author residency at London’s Royal Court Theatre in 2019.

Zaree made her directorial debut with the biographical documentary “Born in Evin,” which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival and received awards. The film explores her early childhood spent inside a political prison in Tehran as the daughter of a political prisoner. Born on July 22, 1983, Maryam Zaree spent her formative years in Evin prison before fleeing with her mother to seek asylum in Frankfurt, Germany.
