About Marya Zaturenska
Marya Zaturenska (1902-09-12 – ) was a Ukrainian-American poet and editor, best known for her Pulitzer Prize-winning collection “Cold Morning Sky” in 1938. Born in Kiev, Ukraine, she later migrated to the United States where she pursued a degree in library science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Zaturenska published her debut poetry collection “Threshold and Heart” in 1934 and went on to produce other notable works such as “The Golden Mirror,” “The Hidden Waterfall,” and “Collected Poems.” Her upbringing involved working at a factory in New York as a teenager to support her family. In 1925, she married fellow poet Horace Gregory with whom she had a son and daughter.
