About Marya Mannes
Marya Mannes was an American novelist, author, editor, and cultural critic. She was born in New York on November 14, 1904.
In 1959, her work “Subverse” was published, which gained significant attention. Mannes also served as an editor for Vogue Magazine and contributed numerous pieces to The New Yorker.
Before gaining fame as a writer and critic, Mannes had a strong familial connection to music and culture – her maternal grandfather and uncles were conductors.
She hosted the television program “I Speak For Myself” in the late 1950s. Throughout her life, she married three times and passed away in San Francisco in 1990. Mannes is survived by one child.
