Mary Steenburgen is an American actress, known for her work in film. She was born on February 8, 1953 in Newport, Arkansas.
She gained fame from her role in the 1980 film Melvin and Howard and has also appeared in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape and Back to the Future Part III.
Prior to her acting career, Steenburgen was discovered by Jack Nicholson who cast her in the 1978 film Goin’ South. In addition to her early successes, she appeared in notable films such as Four Christmases, Step Brothers, and The Proposal during the early 21st century.
Steenburgen was married to actor Malcolm McDowell from 1980 to 1990 with whom she had a son named Charlie and a daughter named Lilly. Later she married Ted Danson in 1995.
