About Mary Quant
Mary Quant (1930-02-11 – 2023) was an English fashion designer and British fashion icon known for her influential contributions to modernist and youth fashion movements in the 1960s. She is credited with popularizing key clothing pieces such as the mini skirt and hot pants.
Before her successful career as a designer, Quant studied Art Education at Goldsmiths College. In 1963, she became the first winner of the Dress of the Year Award. Additionally, Japan has over 200 Mary Quant Colour shops.
Quant met her future husband and business partner, Alexander Plunkett-Greene, during her time at Goldsmiths. They were married from 1957 until his death in 1990.
