Mary McGarry Morris, born on February 10, 1943 in Connecticut, is an American fiction writer and playwright. She is best known for her novels such as Vanished and A Dangerous Woman. Additionally, she wrote a drama that centers on the life of Mary Todd Lincoln.

Prior to gaining recognition as a writer, Morris spent ten years writing her debut novel, Vanished before it was finally published in 1988. She has been recognized as a finalist for both the National Book Award and the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction. With her husband Mike, she raised five children.
