About Mary Flower
Mary Flower is a blues and ragtime finger-picking guitarist and singer, born on February 8th, 1951 in Portland, Oregon. She is known as one of the few women worldwide who play this unique style of guitar. Flower has performed at various folk festivals such as Merlefest, Kerrville, King Biscuit, A Prairie Home Companion, and the Vancouver Folk Festival.
Her discography includes albums like “When My Bluebird Sings” (2014), “Misery Loves Company” (2011), and “Ladyfingers” (2001).
Flower’s love for music began early when she started playing piano by ear at the age of five. Her decision to pursue a career in music was influenced by attending a Yank Rachell concert in the early 1970s.
In addition to her performances, Flower’s accolades include placing in the top three at the National Finger Style Guitar Championship in both 2000 and 2003. She has also been involved with programs such as Blues in Schools and has contributed to educational resources through instructional DVDs and music workshops.
