About Mary Coustas
Mary Coustas is an Australian comedienne and actress best known for her portrayal of the Greek-Australian character Effie, who gained popularity after debuting in the 1989 show Acropolis Now. Born on September 16, 1964 in Melbourne, Australia, she attended Deakin University where she studied performing arts and journalism. Her first major breakthrough came as part of the stage show Wogs Out of Work.
Besides her role as Effie, Mary has also published a memoir, released an album, and performed voice over work. In 2005, she married George Bestis. After struggling with infertility and undergoing nearly two dozen IVF treatments including experiencing a miscarriage and stillbirth, they welcomed their daughter Jamie in 2013.
