About Mary Chase Perry-Stratton
Mary Chase Perry-Stratton was an American entrepreneur and potter, born on March 15, 1867 in Hancock, Michigan. She is known for co-founding Pewabic Pottery, a ceramics studio that manufactured iridescent-glazed lamps, vessels, and tiles.
Before gaining fame as a potter, she worked with her pottery partner Horace Hames Caulkins who created Pewabic signature works on the kiln while she provided the artistic vision for these creations.
Her pottery studio became a Michigan landmark and began operating as an art school and a museum after her death.
Mary Chase Perry-Stratton’s family life began in Hancock, Michigan before moving to Ann Arbor following her father’s death.
