About Martha Ostenso
Martha Ostenso was a Canadian fiction writer and screenwriter, born on September 17, 1900 in Norway. She gained recognition for her bestselling novel, Wild Geese, published in 1925. Her other notable works include The White Reef; The Dark Dawn; Prologue to Love; and The Stone Field.
Prior to her writing career, Ostenso briefly studied at the University of Manitoba before moving to New York to work as a social worker.
In addition to her literary contributions, Ostenso’s novel Wild Geese was adapted into a Canadian television movie starring Sam Shepard. She married Douglas Durkin in 1945.
