About Martha Chase
Martha Chase was an American geneticist born in Ohio on November 30, 1927. She is best known for being part of the team that conducted a groundbreaking 1952 experiment confirming that DNA, not protein, is the genetic material of life.
Prior to her scientific career, Martha earned a bachelor’s degree from The College of Wooster in 1950 and went on to complete her PhD at the University of Southern California in 1964.
In her later years, Martha suffered from dementia which affected her short-term memory. She spent her formative years with her family in Cleveland, Ohio.
