About Marlee Matlin
Marlee Matlin was born on August 24, 1965 in Morton Grove, Illinois. She is a talented movie actress who made history by winning an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in the 1986 film Children of a Lesser God. This achievement not only made her the first deaf actress to win the award but also marked her as the youngest winner at just 21 years old.
In addition to her groundbreaking success, Matlin took on the role of Melody Bledsoe in the ABC Family series Switched at Birth starting in 2011.
Before finding fame, she experienced hearing loss at just 18 months old and went on to make her debut on stage at age seven in a children’s theater production of The Wizard of Oz.
Beyond acting, Matlin has appeared on various TV series including ER, Seinfeld, The West Wing, and Desperate Housewives.
Personally, she married Kevin Grandalski in 1993 and together they have raised four children: Sarah, Brandon, Tyler and Isabelle.
