About Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings
Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings was an American author who achieved great success in the field of young adult fiction. She is best known for her novel The Yearling, which won the Pulitzer Prize in 1939 and became a beloved classic. Rawlings also wrote other notable works such as The Secret River and The Sojourner, along with numerous short stories.
Rawlings developed a passion for writing at a young age, even submitting stories to children’s sections of newspapers by the time she was six. She went on to graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in English in 1918.
An interesting fact about Rawlings is that many of her works were written while she lived on a 72-acre estate in Hawthorne, Florida. Her novels and stories were often inspired by the tales from her neighbors as well as her own experiences and observations.
She was born in Washington, D.C. to Arthur Frank Kinnan, an attorney for the US Patent Office and later married Charles Rawlings in 1919.
