About Marilyn Bell
Marilyn Bell is a Canadian swimmer born on October 19, 1937, in Toronto. She made history as the first woman to swim across Lake Ontario and also later crossed The English Channel and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Before gaining fame, she began taking swimming lessons at the age of 9 and started competing in long-distance swimming events by 1947.
At just 16 years old, Marilyn completed her record-setting 32-mile swim from Youngstown, NY, across Lake Ontario to Toronto. She later had four children with her husband Joe Di Lascio.
