Mariene de Castro is a Brazilian world music singer, born on May 12, 1978. Hailing from Brazil, she is widely recognized for her role in reviving northeastern Brazilian musical styles such as maracatu and samba de roda. Her noteworthy performances include the 2016 Summer Olympics where she sang “Pelo Tempo Que Durar” in front of the Olympic flame.
Prior to gaining recognition as a solo artist, Mariene de Castro started her career as a backing vocalist for artists like Timbalada. Additionally, she was crowned queen of the 2007 Gay Pride Parade in Salvador.
