About Marie Under
Marie Under was an Estonian poet, born on March 27, 1883. She played a significant role in the Siuru and Tarapita literary movements and is regarded as one of the most influential figures in Estonian literature. Before gaining recognition as a poet, she worked as a sales clerk at a bookshop.
In 1944, following the Soviet Union’s control over Estonia, Under fled to Sweden with her family. She married Carl Hacker initially before divorcing him in 1924 and marrying fellow poet Artur Adson.
