About Marie Kondo
Marie Kondo is a Japanese organization consultant and reality TV star, born on October 9, 1984. She rose to prominence with her 2011 book “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing,” which has been translated into over 30 languages. This led to her starring in the popular Netflix series “Tidying up with Marie Kondo.”
Prior to her fame, Kondo worked as an attendant maiden at a Shinto shrine for five years before founding her organizing consulting business at the age of 19 while studying sociology at Tokyo Woman’s Christian University.
In addition to her literary and television work, she was named one of Time magazine’s “100 most influential people” in 2015 due to the widespread impact of her KonMari method for organizing spaces.
Kondo is married to Takumi Kawahara and together they have two children. In April 2021, they welcomed their third child.
