Maria Branwell Feet

Maria Branwell was an English essayist, best known for being the mother of the literary skilled daughters Emily, Anne, and Charlotte Bronte, as well as the poet and painter Branwell Bronte. She was born on April 15th, 1783 in England.

As a young woman Maria was one of twelve children but only six lived long enough to reach adulthood. In 1812 she married Patrick Bronte whom she had met that same year.

One of her lesser known works is her essay called “The Advantages of Poverty, In Religious Concerns,” which can be found in Life and Letters by Clement Shorter.
