About Marguerite Bourgeoys
Marguerite Bourgeoys (1620-04-17) was a French religious leader known as the foundress of the Congregation of Notre Dame of Montreal in the colony of New France, which later became part of Canada.
Before achieving fame, she embarked on a journey to the colony of New France with 100 other colonists aboard the ship Saint-Nicholas in 1653.
Bourgeoys was born in France as the sixth child out of twelve to Abraham Bourgeoys and Guillemette Garnier. She was later declared a saint by the Catholic Church for her contributions.
