About Margie Singleton
Margie Singleton, born on October 5, 1935 in Louisiana, is a country singer who gained popularity in the 1960s. She is well-known for her duets with country music legends such as George Jones and Faron Young. Singleton and Jones recorded the hit song ‘Keeping Up With The Joneses.’
Before rising to fame, she was exposed to blues and gospel music during her upbringing and began writing songs and playing guitar as a teenager. During the Korean War, she worked at a munitions plant.
In 1963, Singleton made her debut on the renowned stage show Grand Ole Opry. She married Shelby Singleton at thirteen years old and had her first child in 1950 before later divorcing and remarrying Leon Ashley in 1965.
