Margaret Forster (born May 25, 1938) is an acclaimed British fiction author, biographer, memoir writer, and literary critic. She is best known for works such as Diary of an Ordinary Woman, Georgy Girl, and Precious Lives.
Forster graduated from Somerville College, Oxford with a degree in history before briefly teaching at Barnsbury Girls’ School in London. In 2006 she published Keeping the World Away, a slightly fictionalized biography of Welsh artist Gwen John.
She has been married to broadcast journalist and writer Hunter Davies.
