Mamata Shankar is an Indian movie actress known for her work in Bengali cinema. She was born on January 7, 1955, in India. Before gaining fame as an actress, she was a dancer and choreographer who trained at the Uday Shankar India Culture Centre.
Shankar has been cast by some of the region’s most prestigious directors and has appeared in films such as Mrigayaa and Sopan. Her debut film, Mrigayaa (1976), won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film.
She comes from a talented family; her uncle is the world-renowned sitarist Ravi Shankar.
