About Makiko Esumi
Makiko Esumi is a Japanese TV actress who was born on December 18, 1966 in Japan. She gained popularity for her portrayal of Chinatsu Tsuboi in the television series Shomuni.
Before pursuing an acting career, Esumi worked as a miko at Izumo-taisha and also played for the Tobacco Women’s Volleyball team until she suffered an injury in 1989.
Esumi received a nomination for the Best Actress category at the 2002 Japan Academy Prize for her performance in the film Inochi.
In 2003, she married television director Shin Hirano and together they have two daughters, born in 2005 and 2009.
