About Madina Nalwanga
Madina Nalwanga, born on February 2, 2002 in Uganda, is a renowned movie actress known for her breakout role in Disney’s 2016 film Queen of Katwe. She achieved critical acclaim for her performance, securing an NAACP Image Award and a Women Film Critics Circle Award. Additionally, she received a nomination for a Critic’s Choice Award.
Prior to her acting career, Nalwanga was discovered by a casting director at a community dance class in the Kabalagala neighborhood of Kampala, Uganda.
An interesting fact about Nalwanga is that during the filming of Queen of Katwe, actor David Oyelowo took her and other children from the set to see Jurassic World–the first movie she had ever seen.
Nalwanga hails from humble beginnings, spending her childhood selling corn on the streets.
