About Mabel Gardiner Hubbard
Mabel Gardiner Hubbard (November 25, 1857 – January 3, 1923) was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She is remembered as the wife of Alexander Graham Bell, who is credited with inventing the telephone. Mabel was also the daughter of Gardiner Greene Hubbard, the first president of the Bell Telephone Company.
Before fame, Mabel became deaf at the age of four due to a severe case of scarlet fever. This experience led her father to establish the first oral school for the deaf in the United States.
Despite her disability, she learned how to talk and lip-read in multiple languages.
In July 1877, Mabel married Alexander Graham Bell and together they had four children.
