About Lynn Conway
Lynn Conway is a renowned engineer and scientist known for her pivotal role in the Mead & Conway revolution within computer science. Her advocacy work for the transgender community also greatly contributed to her fame. Born on January 2, 1938, in New York, she attended Columbia University after leaving Massachusetts Institute of Technology during an unsuccessful male-to-female gender transition procedure.
Conway completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in engineering at Columbia before commencing her career which later led to teaching computer science and engineering at the University of Michigan.
Throughout her life, she resided in Michigan with her husband Charlie following a childhood spent in White Plains, New York.
