About Lydia Davis
Lydia Davis, born on July 15, 1947 in Massachusetts, is an American novelist known for her acclaimed short story collections such as Varieties of Disturbance and Break It Down. She was a finalist for the 2007 National Book Award and for the 1986 PEN/Hemingway Award.
Prior to gaining recognition as a writer, Davis graduated from Barnard College and went on to teach at New York University and the State University of New York at Albany.
Besides being a fiction writer, Lydia Davis is also a poet with work published in both The Best American Poetry and The Best American Short Stories anthologies.
She comes from a family of English teachers and married novelist Paul Auster in the mid-1970s before later marrying visual artist Alan Cote.
