About Lusia Harris
Lusia Harris was born on February 10, 1955, in Minter City, Mississippi. She is renowned as one of the only female basketball players to have appeared in the NBA. In 1977, she made history by being drafted by the New Orleans jazz. Additionally, she represented the United States’ national team and secured a silver medal at the 1976 Olympic Games.
Prior to her basketball career, Harris grew up as the fourth of five daughters and tenth of eleven children in her family. She honed her skills playing college basketball at Delta State University before venturing into professional leagues.
Notably, Harris competed for the Houston Angels in the Women’s Professional Basketball League during her career. Beyond her athletic achievements, she entered into marriage with George E. Stewart on February 4, 1977; together they had four children.
