About Luciana Genro
Luciana Genro is a Brazilian lawyer and politician, born on January 17, 1971, in Santa Maria, Brazil. She is best known for her role as one of the founding members of the leftwing Socialism and Freedom Party (PSOL). With a background in law and politics, she currently serves as an elected state representative and has also run presidential campaigns advocating for socialist workers’ parties and other socialist movements.
Genro attended the University of the Rio dos Sinos Valley where she majored in political science. In 1994, at the age of 23, she was elected for her first term as a State Representative. Following her expulsion from the Worker’s Party in 2003, she co-founded the PSOL. Genro ran as PSOL’s presidential candidate in the 2014 Brazilian general election.
In addition to her political career, Genro holds a master’s degree in Philosophy of Law from the Faculty of Law at University of Sao Paulo. She has also made significant contributions through her work at Genro & Genro Law Firm where she specializes in Social Security Law and Criminal Law.
Born into a politically active family in Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil; Luciana is the daughter of Tarso Genro—an influential leader within the Worker’s Party.
