About Lorine Niedecker
Lorine Niedecker (1903-05-12) was an American Objectivist poet known for addressing personal subject matter in her works, such as My Life by Water and New Goose. Born in Wisconsin, she grew up in rural areas and studied at Beloit College until financial difficulties forced her to leave. Niedecker’s early poetry displayed elements of surrealism, while her later works delved into political and social themes.
She gained recognition for writing a series of poems dedicated to the son of her literary mentor Louis Zukofsky. However, Zukofsky deemed the poems too personal and prevented their publication. In 1928, Niedecker married Frank Hartwig but separated from him during the Great Depression due to financial struggles.
