About Lois Lenski
Lois Lenski (October 14, 1893) was an American children’s author and illustrator, born in Springfield, Ohio. She is best known for her Newbery Medal-winning works such as the Mr. Small series, Strawberry Girl, and Judy’s Journey.
Before gaining fame as an author, Lenski attended Ohio State University where she graduated in 1915 with a BS in education and a teaching certificate. Her first historical novel, Phebe Fairchild: Her Book was inspired by her experiences living in Connecticut.
In 1921, she married Arthur Covey; he was a widower who had two young children from his previous marriage. In 1929, they welcomed their son Stephen into the family.
