About Lois Burwell
Lois Burwell (born December 23, 1960) is an Academy Award-winning makeup artist hailing from London, England. Known for her close collaboration with renowned director Steven Spielberg, Burwell has contributed to iconic films such as The Princess Bride, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and The Muppet Christmas Carol. She received Oscar nominations for her work on Spielberg’s Braveheart and Saving Private Ryan.
Burwell began her professional career in 1981 as a makeup artist on the romantic comedy Gregory’s Girl and has since amassed an impressive body of work. In addition to her film contributions, she has also lent her talents to television shows such as Red Dwarf, Press Gang, and Jack the Ripper.
In 1998, Burwell married cinematographer John Toll; both accomplished artists won Oscars for their work on the 1995 film Braveheart.
