About Lisa Nowak
Lisa Nowak, born on May 10, 1963 in Washington, DC, is a former NASA astronaut known for her role as the flight engineer on STS-121. Her career with NASA came to an end in 2007 after she was involved in an attempted kidnapping.
Prior to her time with NASA, Nowak earned a Master’s degree in aeronautical engineering following her Bachelor’s degree from the U.S. Naval Academy. She served in the Navy and was later discharged due to her involvement in the kidnapping controversy.
In 1988, Lisa married Richard Nowak and they had three children before divorcing.
