About Lisa Gerrard
Lisa Gerrard is an Australian composer and neoclassical singer, born on April 12, 1961. She gained widespread acclaim after winning a Golden Globe in 2001 for Best Original Score for her work on the film ‘Gladiator,’ starring Russell Crowe. The documentary ‘Sanctuary’ (2006) also shed light on her career.
Prior to fame, Gerrard performed in an Australian quartet before relocating to London where she co-founded the Dark Wave band Dead Can Dance with music partner Brendan Perry.
Gerrard is known for her extensive use of the Chinese hammered dulcimer known as yangqin. Her parents were Irish immigrants who raised her in Prahran, and she has two children with graphic artist Jacek Tuschewski.
