Linda Barnes (born December 6, 1949) is an American novelist known for her mystery writing. She is best known for creating the popular Carlotta Carlyle series, featuring a tough female detective. Before establishing herself as a successful author, Barnes worked as a drama teacher and director at schools in Chelmsford and Lexington, Massachusetts. In recognition of her work in the mystery genre, she has been honored with both an Anthony Award and an Edgar Award. Linda Barnes was born in Michigan and raised a family with her husband, ultimately having one son.
